FAQs
GSGA stands for Geological Sciences Graduate Association. This is an organization for graduate students affiliated with the Geological Sciences Department. We organize meetings every month to check in with graduate students in case anything needs to be brought up to the department chair (or just to say hello!), are a resource of information for how to be involved in the department, and can help graduate students get some extra money if they need to get some outreach projects rolling. Full information about our mission and roles can be found in the GSGA Bylaws.Ìý
GSGA advertises open positions throughout the year and vacant positons are listed on our homepage. Elections for most positions occur during Spring semester with positions beginning in the Fall of the next academic year. In the case of a vacancy, elections may be held at other times throughout the year. Elected positions are for one year with no limits on the number terms. GSGA staff positions are appointed by officers, if you are interested in one of these roles, please contact us!Â
Committees are how the department manages itself. Department committees are mainly made up of faculty but many include student representatives, who are elected through GSGA. If you're passionate about a particular topic or just want to get involved, serving on a committee can be a great experience!
Since we are an officially Recognized Student Organization, we get funds from the University, not the department.
Graduate students who are interested in starting some sort of geology related outreach program or event. This can include some money to put towards supplies to do outreach with students, or for bringing out a speaker on a topic relevant to graduate students. Please e-mail the treasurer and president to request funds.
