A unified campus facilities vision

Dear Infrastructure and Sustainability team,

With Strategic Facilities Visioning moving ahead at full speed, I encourage everyone in our organization to follow the initiative as it takes shape over the coming year. The campus is currently engaged in coordinated visioning processes, including Academic Futures, Financial Futures, Strategic Facilities Visioning, and the Diversity, Inclusion and Academic Excellence Plan. These coordinated processes will shape teaching and learning, and the infrastructure that supports those endeavors, for decades to come. The unified, long-term campus vision for facilities that our effort aims to achieve will impact not just the the work we all do every day; it will guide our overall approach to providing and maintaining world-class spaces for the campus.

I want to commend Campus Architect Bill Haverly and Capital Planning Strategist Ida Mae Isaac for orchestrating a successful kickoff to Strategic Facilities Visioning. Their work leading this initiative, along with our consultants from AECOM Strategy Plus, has been invaluable in laying the groundwork for the year ahead.��

The project team met last week with leaders from nearly two dozen units across campus to begin deep-dive conversations about the visions for their individual programs. This work will continue over the coming weeks, and feed into the scenario planning to come. Each of these campus units has a team of “visionaries” representing them in this process.

There will be multiple channels for you to get updates and get involved as Strategic Facilities Visioning unfolds. Our visionaries representing Infrastructure and Sustainability in the efforts include myself; Environmental Health and Safety Director Brandon Boger; AVC for Planning Design and Construction Chris Ewing, AVC for Facilities Operations and Services Brian Lindoerfer; Real Estate Services Executive Director Derek Silva; and Chief Sustainability Officer Heidi VanGenderen. I encourage you to reach out to them, as well as Bill and Ida Mae, if you have questions, thoughts or ideas about Strategic Facilities Visioning. Updates and information will also be posted on the Strategic Facilities Visioning website. And campus town halls will be held in the coming months.

This is an exciting effort that we envision reaping rewards for us and our campus, and your input and thoughts for our collective future will help shape who we are and how we support this great university.

Infrastructure and Sustainability Day at CU Soccer

Goooooooooooaaaaaaaaal!!!!!!! Sunday, Oct. 7, is Office of Infrastructure and Sustainability Day at the CU Buffs soccer game versus Washington at Prentup Field. The event is the next in a series hosted by the Infrastructure and Sustainability Inclusive Excellence Committee (ISIEC) designed to create employee connections within the Office of Infrastructure and Sustainability. Bring your families to the game and take photos with Ralphie, CU’s live buffalo mascot. There will also be a kids zone activity area. Game time is 2 p.m., and tickets are available at the gate. Tickets are $8 for adults. Tickets for kids 12 and under, as well as parking, are free. The first 10 Infrastructure and Sustainability staff to Prentup Field each receive a free ticket to the game.

CU �� notches STARS Gold

Congratulations to all of the Infrastructure and Sustainability staff whose daily work contributes to CU �� being recognized as one of the top universities for sustainability in the country. CU �� recently achieved STARS Gold status for the third time. STARS is the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment and Rating System administered by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE). CU ��’s most recent STARS report score ranks the university 11th among doctoral and research universities nationally, including fourth in the Pac-12 Conference. CU �� Today has the details of the most recent STARS achievement.

I&S Mentor Program deadline approaching

The registration deadline for the Infrastructure and Sustainability Mentor Program (ISMP) is Sept. 14. Now entering its seventh year, the ISMP is designed to provide Infrastructure and Sustainability staff with an opportunity for both professional and personal development through a variety of self-directed activities as mentor-team participants. The ISMP is open to all Infrastructure and Sustainability staff who have been with the university for at least one year. Visit the ISMP webpage for more details.

It’S Friday event a success

More than 200 Infrastructure and Sustainability staff gathered for the Aug. 10 It’S Friday event hosted jointly by the I&S Inclusive Excellence Committee (ISIEC) and Facilities Operations and Services. The day included shop tours, educational talks, games and lunch cooked by Facilities Operations and Services leadership.
