On Tuesday, Sept. 22 the State of Colorado announced mandatory furlough days for state employees who make more than $50,000 per year. Higher education is exempt from these state-mandated furloughs. CU �������� is currently working with CU System and the other campuses to determine if classified employee furloughs will be implemented for our campuses. When COVID-19 hit the United States, many non-emergency surgeries and appointments were postponed and child care centers closed. If you had a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) for health care or dependent care, the shutdown may have prevented you from spending money. Ordinarily, these unspent funds would have been forfeited.��

In response, the IRS extended deadlines to spend FSA funds on qualified expenses and file claims for the 2019-20 plan year. If you have leftover FSA money from last plan year, you now have until Dec. 31, 2020 to spend it. Learn more about the

I&S Human Resources offers two options for staff to formally express appreciation for those who make a difference in their day-to-day work:

• Spot Awards: A $10 spot award gift card can be awarded to any I&S team member “on the spot.”��

• Star Award nominations: Star award nominations are collected and reviewed each month by the I&S employee recognition committee. Two awards of $50 each are awarded monthly. .

The CDC recommends that you and your family members get a flu vaccine in September or October. While Employee Services will not hold on-campus flu shots clinics this year, CU Health Plan providers offer plenty of convenient ways to get your annual inoculation against the flu, often at no cost. Please join Matthew Burgess from the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES) Fridays this fall for a series of discussions aimed at building empathy and understanding across political and other divisions.
