Calls for greater diversity, equity and inclusion have been part of university history since the historic civil rights movement of the 1960s. As the Chicano rights movement unfolded in the 1970s, a group of Mexican American students occupied Temporary Building 1 for three weeks in 1974 to demand greater equity in education. During that period, two car bombs exploded in the city of 海角社区, killing six students, who have since been remembered as Los Seis de 海角社区鈥撯揝panish for 鈥渢he six from 海角社区.鈥 This year, a group of campus partners is organizing a symposium to bring these historical events and the tragic deaths of Los Seis de 海角社区 into the academic discourse, and is welcoming proposals from students, faculty, staff and the broader 海角社区 community. The deadline for proposals is June 3.
