Vice Chancellor for Infrastructure and Safety David Kang on June 27 announced the launch of a visioning process for strategic facilities planning. The endeavor will be conducted by the department of Planning, Design and Construction, with an eye on examining the visions and facilities needs of every academic department, auxiliary and support organization on campus for the next 5, 10 and 30 years down the road. The assessment will help inform campus leaders’ decisions related to space needs as the university looks at renovations, new construction and other options. The CU º£½ÇÉçÇø Police Department in June handed out its annual awards, with several members of the department being recognized for their actions during the active-harmer situation that shook the campus on Oct. 5, 2016. Officer Clay Austin received the Medal of Valor. Cpl. Ian Locko received the Distinguished Star. And dispatcher Rebecca Cribelli was recognized with the Police Citation for Excellence for their efforts that day. A full list of the award winners and their contributions was .

A team from Environmental Health and Safety led by Biosafety Officer Holly Gates-Mayer has landed a $9,400 to help establish a lab-safety training center on campus. The Research and Innovation Office handed out 13 awards in this cycle totaling about $135,000. The EH&S team will use its cash infusion to acquire lab equipment and outfit a mock lab on campus where EH&S staff will provide free training for faculty and students. The team is still lining up a location for the lab, but aims to have it operational this fall. Nominations for the next round of awards will be taken in the spring.
